  • Climate change is a broad term that describes the long-term alteration of the global climate system. It is caused by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and agricultural practices. These activities are producing an excess amount of greenhouse gasses which trap more heat in the atmosphere and cause global temperatures to rise. This leads to extreme weather conditions, rising sea levels, and other changes in our environment. Climate change is a major threat to our planet and must be addressed urgently if we are to avoid its devastating effects.
  • Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and it is essential that we take steps to address this issue. Fortunately, there are a variety of solutions that can help us reduce our carbon footprint and improve the environment. These solutions include renewable energy sources, energy efficiency measures, green transportation initiatives, and sustainable land use practices. By utilizing these strategies, we can make a real difference in tackling climate change.
  • The difference between global warming and climate change is that global warming refers to the average increase in the Earth’s temperature due to the increase of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere, whereas climate change is the long-term changes in the climate of a region or the Earth as a whole. Global warming is one of the causes of climate change, but climate change can also be caused by natural factors such as volcanic eruptions or changes in the Earth’s orbit. While global warming is a short-term phenomenon, climate change is a long-term phenomenon that can have significant impacts on the environment.
  • Greenhouse gasses pose severe environmental and health issues and they contribute to climate change. Greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, trap heat in the atmosphere and cause global temperatures to rise. This can lead to extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, and heat waves, as well as rising sea levels and other changes to the environment. These impacts can have serious consequences for human health, food security, and the economy.
  • According to the New York City Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, buildings are responsible for nearly 70% of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions. This includes emissions from the burning of fossil fuels for heating and electricity, as well as emissions from the manufacture of building materials. The remaining 30% of emissions come from transportation, waste, and other sources.
  • According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, buildings account for 40% of the nation’s total carbon footprint. This includes emissions from the burning of fossil fuels for heating and electricity, as well as emissions from the manufacture of building materials. The remaining 60% of emissions come from transportation, industry, electricity production, and other sources.
  • Energy efficiency can improve a building’s property value in two ways. First, it can reduce the building’s energy costs, which can improve its financial performance and make it more attractive to potential buyers. Second, energy-efficient buildings are more desirable to potential buyers, as they are seen as more sustainable and are likely to be more comfortable and efficient to inhabit. This can lead to an increase in the property’s resale value.
  • People | Planet | Profit – At United Energy Advisors, we take the triple bottom line approach to business that emphasizes the need to balance the interests of all three stakeholders: people, planet, and profit. This approach takes into account not just a business’s financial performance, but also its impact on people and the environment. People, planet, profit is a way of doing business that includes ethical, sustainable, and responsible practices. This approach keeps us in parallel as businesses recognize the need to be more mindful of their impact on society and the environment, while still achieving profit.
  • ESG – Environmental, Social, and Governance – Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) is a framework used by investors and companies to assess the sustainability and societal impact of investments, and to evaluate the long-term economic value of companies. ESG criteria consider a company’s environmental performance, its social responsibility, and the ethical standards of its governance practices. ESG criteria have become increasingly important to investors in recent years, as they seek to make investments that are both financially and ethically sound.

UEA is committed to reducing its environmental impact and improving its social and governance practices. This commitment may involve a variety of activities, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, investing in renewable energy sources, engaging in ethical business practices, and creating a workplace environment that is safe and equitable for all employees. We plan to publicly communicate our commitment to sustainability by issuing sustainability reports or joining industry initiatives such as the Carbon Disclosure Project.

The Storied History of United Energy Advisors

Origins and Vision (March 2017)

In March 2017, Keith Parham, a building industry veteran with over two decades of experience in the buildings sector, founded United Energy Advisors (UEA). Parham, driven by a vision to revolutionize the energy consultancy landscape, set out to create a firm that would offer unparalleled expertise and strategic guidance to businesses navigating the complex energy management markets. His goal was to help clients optimize energy usage, reduce costs, and transition to more sustainable practices.

Early Challenges and Growth

The early days of UEA were marked by significant challenges. Parham and his small team of subcontractors worked tirelessly to establish their brand and credibility in a competitive market. Their persistence paid off when they landed their first mid-sized property management clients in the  commercial real estate sector seeking to reduce their energy expenditures. Leveraging state and utility incentives and through meticulous analysis and innovative solutions, UEA not only identified substantial cost savings for the clients but also set a benchmark for future projects.

Expanding Horizons (2019-2020)

Building on initial success, UEA expanded its services to include compliance, HVAC optimization, and energy procurement. By 2020, the company had grown its client base to include a diverse array of industries, from multifamily to hospitality. The subcontractor partner team, now larger and more specialized, continued to deliver customized energy strategies that aligned with each client’s unique needs.

The period from 2019 to 2020 saw UEA forming strategic partnerships with leading technology providers in the energy sector. These alliances enabled UEA to offer cutting-edge solutions, such as advanced energy monitoring systems and smart HVAC technologies, further enhancing their clients’ operational efficiencies and sustainability efforts.

Navigating the Pandemic (2020-2021)

The global COVID-19 pandemic presented unforeseen challenges, disrupting businesses worldwide. UEA quickly adapted by leveraging digital tools and remote consulting capabilities to continue serving clients effectively.  One of the most significant impacts of the pandemic was on the commercial real estate sector, which faced drastically lower occupancy rates as many businesses shifted to remote work.

With office buildings and commercial spaces sitting largely empty, property managers and owners became increasingly concerned with managing energy costs in underutilized spaces. UEA responded by offering tailored solutions to address these new challenges. They conducted energy audits to identify inefficiencies and recommended strategies such as adjusting HVAC schedules, improving insulation, and implementing advanced energy management systems. These measures helped clients significantly reduce energy consumption and costs during periods of low occupancy, ensuring that buildings remained financially viable despite the reduced tenant presence.

Pioneering Sustainability (2022-2023)

With growing awareness and demand for sustainable energy solutions, UEA took a proactive approach to integrate environmental stewardship into its core offerings. By 2022, the company launched several initiatives aimed at promoting electrification and carbon footprint reduction. UEA’s efforts included extensive client education programs, helping businesses understand the long-term benefits of sustainable practices.

In 2023, UEA’s commitment to sustainability was advanced by its pursuit of an industry award for excellence in energy consulting. This accolade, while not fully realized, elevated UEA’s innovative approaches and its reputation as a leader in the field.

Looking to the Future (2024 and Beyond)

As of 2024, United Energy Advisors continues to thrive under Keith Parham’s leadership. The company remains at the forefront of the energy consultancy industry, constantly evolving to meet the dynamic needs of the market. With a steadfast dedication to innovation, client success, and sustainability, UEA is poised to navigate the future challenges and opportunities in the ever-changing energy landscape.

Keith Parham’s vision from 2017 has blossomed into a business model of expertise, resilience, and forward-thinking solutions, making United Energy Advisors a trusted partner for businesses striving to achieve energy efficiency, decarbonization, sustainability, and compliance.
